Hello, my name is Masao Fukaya. I am an image editor at Nippon Design Center. Generally a photo retoucher is someone who works in image processing based on photos. But at NDC, photos do not provide the only basis for work; 3D CG and videos also function as materials. Therefore, we call this position an image editor.

A lot of my work involves creating automobile visuals, but I take care not to go overboard. Projects involving automobiles tend to be excessive. Creating these visuals of course means beautiful results, but doing too much makes for an awkward end product. For example, if I like a certain element of a photo, I make sure to maintain that through to the end of the project. I aim to make points like that.

On my days off, I like going out on my motorcycle when the weather is nice. I enjoy being on my own. Going out in groups is fun, too, but being alone lets me think while I go wherever the roads take me. I like vibrations. There are times when they feel just right. I place importance on the parts I like at work, too, whether it be a certain color or a certain instance of contrast and so on. I always try to add my own personality into my work.

Recently, I have been working with the CG team frequently, which has made me realize how quickly technology evolves. There are things that I used to struggle to create that can now be done very easily. However, while the tools we use may change, what is important as an image editor is the sense behind understanding how to make improvements. I believe that remains the same. That sense is what I always place the most importance on.
