Hello, my name is Masa Kondo. I work in the General Affairs and Accounting Division.
For about 13 years after joining NDC, I worked as an in-house SE in the Information Systems Division. One day, the director of the Administration Division at the time invited me work in general affairs and accounting. Although I was somewhat confused, I decided to transfer to the General Affairs and Accounting Division. I wanted to take the opportunity given to me and I wanted to take on new challenges.
When I started this new work, I realized that my position as an SE and the role of general affairs and accounting shared several points in common. The Information Systems Division with information and technology, which are the lifeblood of the company. A delay means other work at NDC comes to a standstill. On the other hand, general affairs and accounting—especially accounting—ensures that money, another lifeblood of the company, reaches every area where it is needed without delay. Although what they deal with is different, I felt that these roles are essentially the same. And my attitude remains unchanged—I want to be someone that knows everything about the company. I will continue to think from the perspective of other employees and what concerns or troubles them.
Outside of work, I became keenly aware that I was out of shape with the COVID-19 pandemic. So, at the end of the day, I have started getting off one station before the nearest to my house. I then take a short detour on my way home. Little discoveries have become a joy to find when I am walking home. I think about how the streets have changed since I was young, I notice certain flowers blooming in different seasons, and so on. I also like to eat, so I cook for myself on my days off. I have also recently picked up the ukulele, as it’s something my family has been doing and is often the topic of conversation.
Mastering one thing is, of course, important. But I also think it is necessary to try new things and to keep looking for what fits oneself. I joined NDC as an SE because of my love for Macs. Then an unexpected opportunity led to me working at the General Affairs and Accounting Division. This change has made me think about this idea of fit.
