WHO ARE WE: Biology Through Observation
All Living Beings, Together

The National Museum of Nature and Science stands as Japan’s oldest museum and only national institution devoted to natural history and scientific advancement.
The museum houses approximately 4.9 million specimens, most of which are stored in repositories and not regularly displayed to the public. “WHO ARE WE” was created to showcase select taxidermy specimens—primarily mammals—for traveling exhibitions at museums throughout Japan.
We removed explanatory text, using displays with drawers instead. Each drawer opens to reveal unknown animal aspects and deeper questions. What defines mammals? Who are we? These preserved forms invite visitors to confront both their planet and themselves.
