TOP Collection: Reading Images—The Time of Photography
Expressing “Time" Through Lines
Tokyo Photographic Art Museum (TOP MUSEUM) is a museum dedicated to photographic and visual culture that opened in 1995. NDC produced the catalog and promotional materials for its Summer 2019 exhibition.
The theme was “The Time of Photography.” Our challenge was how to visually convey the viewing experience of reading images inherent in photographs, focusing on the temporality of photography and the narrative elements it evokes.
We expressed the flow of “time” by adorning the space surrounding photographs with undulating “line” graphics. This subtly visualized the exhibition’s intention—to sense and appreciate the flow of time before and after the moment captured in a photograph.
