Connecting the City Like a Constellation
Tokyo Creative Salon (TCS) is a creative festival held across ten of Tokyo’s most iconic districts. Each March, this urban festival transforms the entire city with design and art. For its fifth iteration, we refreshed the visual identity and provided comprehensive design direction.
The renewal required establishing a new visual identity that would unite the ever-expanding festival areas as a single celebration while also embracing each district's unique character.
We developed a visual system that connects the letters “T,” “C,” “S” with the event year and area code like a constellation. The dynamic key visual—boldly drawn with rough lines that fill the entire canvas—creates a strong identity that stands out even amid Tokyo’s bustling crowds.
Visual Identity
We designed a system where 1/50th of the total media area determines the “T” size, and 1/4th of the “T” thickness establishes the unit size for pixel lines. This ensures the frame sizes of “T,” “C,” and “S” maintain a deliberate relationship with the playful movement of the lines.
Graphics
This highly scalable visual system functions as an accent logo when reduced in size and transforms into a key visual when expanded across a screen.
Signage
The key visual, designed to help people remember the event name “T,” “C,” “S,” was displayed in various locations throughout Tokyo.
Web / App
The lines on the website’s homepage are randomly generated in real time.
