’64 Tokyo Olympics Sport Pictograms & Tickets

Universal Clarity at First Glance

The 1964 Tokyo Olympics marked the first Games held in Asia. We established a comprehensive visual identity for the event, creating various materials including tickets and pictograms representing each competition.

With participants from numerous countries, the Olympics required communication that transcended language barriers. The solution was pictograms — a clear, modern, and innovative graphic system that proved so successful that subsequent Olympic Games began creating their own unique pictogram systems.

The designs captured both the intensity of athletic competition and the festive atmosphere of the Games through extremely simple forms. This refined aesthetic sensibility extended to even the smallest details.
