Background

Atami has a rare environment in which the ocean, forest, and human community all coexist in a small area. Focusing on the relationship between the three that have continued through its long history allows a deeper look into Atami’s unique charms.

Ocean

When seen straight-on, fish look very peculiar and interesting. The patterns of sea cucumbers are nature’s paintings. The turban shell creates a graphic pattern. Even pressed seaweed shows beautiful color and shape.

Forest

The forest’s power seen in the skin and cross section of the camphor tree, a sacred tree to the area, as well as the diversity of the citrus and other flora and fauna, are all part of the rich natural beauty of the Atami area.
