Hakkin

Refining the True Value of Sake

We designed the bottle for “Hakkin,” the signature junmai sake from Masuichi-Ichimura Sake Brewery, located in Obuse, Nagano Prefecture.

Traditionally, sake has been accessible to many as an everyday drink, woven into the fabric of daily life. From another perspective, this accessibility meant that prices often remained low relative to quality. But what if we considered the global market and pricing that truly reflects inherent value? “Hakkin” is crafted using traditional wooden vats through the time-intensive yamahai brewing process. Though production volumes are limited, we wanted our design to respond to the brewery’s dedication to continuously refining quality, transforming scarcity into precious value.

The stainless steel vessel takes its inspiration from the sake’s name, “Hakkin” (platinum). We concentrated the sake’s identity into a hand-torn neck label made from Tokushima washi paper. By polishing the surface to achieve ultimate reflectivity, we created a bottle that mirrors its surroundings while projecting a powerful individual character.
