Kazumasa Nagai “LIFE”
Exploring Life’s Essence

This series represents a complete 180 for Kazumasa Nagai — creator of over 1,000 poster works — from abstraction to freehand figurative expression, a direction he has pursued ever since.
By thematically centering “LIFE” — the most vital element for oneself, for others, and for all living beings — Nagai takes pride in defying both his own expectations and those of others, continually challenging himself to discover new forms of expression.
The animal motifs are depicted not realistically but freely and primitively, embodying Nagai’s desire to explore the mystery and diversity of life and the fundamental relationship between humans and nature.

Kazumasa Nagai has produced more than 1,000 posters. This series is one on which he has been working since the 1980s, when he switched from abstract work to handmade tangible subjects. Working with the theme of “life,” the most important thing for himself, others, and all living beings, he is constantly challenging himself with news methods of expression, with his betrayal of himself and the expectations of others as a point of pride.
