Japan Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai
Designing the Voice and Spirit of Japan’s Pavilion

The Japan Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai explores the theme “Between Lives.” The exhibition presents the “Life Relay” — a process where waste collected from the expo grounds becomes new life, connecting to future generations. Through this experience, visitors discover that our world consists of countless small cycles.
What is JUNKAN — the circulation of life? We developed a visual system that makes this central question visible and creates cohesive visual unity. To help visitors understand and enjoy this seemingly complex concept, we designed the pavilion’s entire communication framework, from signage systems to digital platforms.
The Japan Pavilion’s visual system is itself a form of “life.” Like a breathing, growing organism that divides and merges, our visual patterns continuously evolve across all media — logos, graphics, illustrations, and videos. We aimed to create visceral experiences that deliver the pavilion’s theme through every encounter.

Visual Identity
To transcend cultural and language barriers and deliver the Japan Pavilion’s theme as experience, we created a visual system that evolves like living organisms. Our life-like patterns expand beyond logos and graphics to become part of the exhibitions themselves. Rather than static shapes, the process of transformation etches itself into visitors’ memories, creating visual experiences that seamlessly connect impressions of the Japan Pavilion.
Web / App
Our website prioritizes concrete, approachable expressions to communicate the JUNKAN of life. We developed interactive content that invites contemplation rather than imposing information — including “Monthly Japan Pavilion,” which explored different aspects of circulation each month for a year, and “Complete Guide,” which examined the pavilion’s world from multiple perspectives.
Signage
We designed content throughout the Japan Pavilion — floating typography layouts and subtle graphics that blend with architecture and space. Beyond visual elements, we created spatial “feeling experiences” that invite visitors to listen to the pavilion’s whispers. By appealing to visitors’ physical senses, we aimed to expand the Japan Pavilion experience from multiple dimensions.

Movie
We directed and produced video content including eight connected digital displays at the main entrance, exhibition explanation videos for each area, and promotional movies. To avoid disrupting the exhibition experience, we precisely designed “clear, unassuming videos” that eliminate unnecessary production elements.
