JAPAN HOUSE

The Impact of Discovering Japan, to the World

We served as the comprehensive producer for JAPAN HOUSE, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ cultural outreach initiative, and created the identification system including the symbol mark.

Established in London, Los Angeles, and São Paulo, these facilities target not those already interested in Japan, but rather the many people who have never consciously considered Japan. Our guiding principle is to create a quiet yet profound impact of “how little they knew about Japan.” The symbol, inspired by the kanji character “一” (one), embodies Japanese aesthetic values of delicacy, precision, simplicity, and thoughtfulness, while serving as a vessel for diverse interpretations and their synthesis.

We also created a website as an online hub to spark new interest in Japan. Beyond centralizing activities across all three cities, it features curated collections of Japan-focused sites and interview videos with cultural and intellectual figures from Japan and abroad.
