JAPAN DESIGN COMMITTEE
Good Design, Far and Wide

Japan Design Committee is a non-profit design organization established in Tokyo in 1955. Members across various disciplines—designers, architects, and critics—united with the purpose of “promoting good design.” Through the discerning aesthetic judgment of its revolving membership, the committee selects outstanding products from around the world for exhibition and sale at Matsuya Ginza.
To expand these activities more broadly with the changing times, we created a website that consolidates their work. The site comprehensively presents their philosophy and history, information about exhibitions and events at Matsuya Ginza’s “Design Gallery 1953,” and introductions to exceptional products featured in the adjoining “Design Collection” shop.
On product introduction pages—the core of their activities—we incorporated explanatory comments from selection committee members, just as in the physical store. This preserves the mechanism for deeper understanding of product design. Their founding principle of “promoting good design” continues to expand flexibly alongside changing times, even after more than half a century.
