Ichihara Lakeside Museum
Waterside Presence, In Every Corner

The Ichihara Lakeside Museum in Chiba Prefecture was originally built in the 1990s as “The Hill of Water and Sculpture.” Though it continued its unique activities focused on commissioned contemporary art works, a renewal project was launched as the facilities began to age.
This revitalization needed to leverage the museum’s incomparable lakeside setting while conveying its fresh appeal as a contemporary art museum.
We developed a logo abstracting the lake's ripples and implemented a light, casual signage system throughout the grounds. From museum merchandise to printed materials, we unified the design with elements that evoke the waterside atmosphere, expressing the harmonious relationship between the museum and its lakeside environment.
Visual Identity
The signage plan for the Ichihara Lakeside Museum began with a project to renovate the aging “Museum of Water and Sculpture” that was constructed in 1990. The VI takes a new look at the area around the museum with its declining population, and highlights the richness of the land. Together with this VI, the signs produce a light and open impression of the rough-worn construction materials that were used in the renovation, and create a bright message that describe an art museum which is working as a center of art to rejuvenate the community.
