World Design Expo Poster
From Manufacturing Hub to Design Metropolis

In 1989, Nagoya City in Aichi Prefecture hosted the World Design Expo with the theme “People, Dreams, Design — A Symphony Played by the City” to commemorate its 100th anniversary of municipal government. The event attracted 15.18 million visitors.
That same year, Nagoya, renowned for its manufacturing industries, made a “Design City Declaration,” aiming to develop the city with design at its core and enhance its international profile. NDC was responsible for creating the Expo’s logo mark and poster.
The poster, which centered the logo image and conveyed the Expo’s global reach, helped promote Nagoya as a design city. Kazumasa Nagai and several other designers were involved in creating posters for the event.
