Sharing Innovation in Detail

DAIWA is a Japanese fishing equipment brand that boasts one of the world’s top market shares. Since its founding in 1958, the company has consistently released products featuring innovative technology, earning particularly high acclaim for its fishing reels—so much so that it is often referred to as “DAIWA of reels.”

In 2018, as DAIWA celebrated its 60th anniversary, the company completely redesigned its flagship reel, “EXIST.” As a product representing this milestone for the brand, it called for communication that conveyed a sense of renewal.

In the catalog, we focused on the “innovation” that DAIWA has cultivated over many years. We explored DAIWA’s technology and history from various angles, including developer interviews, design sketches, and detailed structural explanations utilizing computer graphics. Going beyond mere product descriptions, we conveyed how truly innovative the EXIST is, expressing the image of DAIWA’s distinctive new flagship product as it heads toward the next 60 years.
