日本の繊維の潜在力を世界に周知させる目的で2007年にスタートした「TOKYO FIBER」。09展では、大手化繊メーカー7社がハイテク繊維を供給し、建築家や諸分野のデザイナー、メディアアーティスト、そしてクルマメーカーやハイテク家電メーカーもクリエイターとして参加し、知的繊維のアプリケーションを縦横に考え、具体的な日用品としてかたちにした。人や猿の顔の形に立体成型されたマスクや、自在に背もたれの形や角度を変えられる形態変形ソファ。光を透過させるコンクリートや、電気を通す布でできたロボットタイルなどなど、実際の製品に近い精度をリアルに具現化し、展観している。2009年ミラノトリエンナーレで開催され、ミラノの本年度最大の話題をさらった他、東京ミッドタウン21_21 DESIGN SITEでも開催し多大な注目を集めた。2010年にはイスラエルのホロン・ミュージアム、2011年には北京の天安时间当代艺术中心、2012年3月には上海の证大当代艺术空间にて海外巡回展が行われた。
