HARA DESIGN INSTITUTE

The "Twenty-three Posters 1981/2017" project by UCLA and Waseda University revisited a posters project from 36 years earlier. As in 1981, twelve graphic designers were assigned to design 2017 posters with traditional Japanese themes such as Noh, Kyogen, Shamisen, and Nihon Buyo. Kenya Hara was responsible for "Noh," and his poster illustrates the emergence of an image on a Noh mask. Below the poster are three rough sketches.
