Kusamura Books Kusamura Books

The word kusamura in Japanese means a place where grass has grown thick. But the Japanese kanji character for kusamura is also used in combination with the kanji for 'book' to refer to a series or collection of books that are continuously published in a uniform format. With this in mind, we envisioned Kusamura Books, the casual brand developed by Tsutaya Books, as a product of knowledge, growing thick and lush, like a grassy meadow.

1. Ming-cho typeface, scuffed texture VI System

We kept the DNA of Tsutaya Books by using a Ming-cho font, but added a scuffed texture to create a younger, rougher, livelier image befitting Kusamura Books.
