A pair of octagonal, chestnut-shaped bowls Two“Peeled Chestnuts”

This 3D bowl was created out of a flat board. Speaking of angular vessels, I recalled the bulky, chubby, square shape of a black Raku pottery piece, a tea bowl known as "peeled chestnut", made in the early days of Raku pottery by its founder, Chojiro. The only problem was that squares are hard to sip from, so I made a practical octagonal bowl. The two lacquered bowls, placed side by side, exhibit a strange harmony. Witnessing this harmony, for this project I came up with a set of octagonal, chestnut-shaped bowls, one for soup and one for rice.
