Entry for the Beijing Summer Olympic Games Symbol Design Competition Entry for the Beijing Summer Olympic Games Symbol Design Competition

I entered the symbol design competition for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. The design introduced here received an honorable mention. With the idea that the charm of the manmade physical environment of traditional China lies in embellishment, I strove to design a symbol that went in a direction that was not devoted to simplicity. Based on the motif of Chinese hieroglyphs, each portion is a pictogram of an athlete in the games. The integration of the pictograms representing a variety of games creates a symbol that is complex, yet centripetal. The individual pictograms are designed to move as motion graphics.
