Haruka Misawa Awarded the 2017 JAGDA New Designer Award

Misawa Haruka , art director and head of the Misawa Design Institute, received the 2017 JAGDA New Designer Award from the Japan Graphic Designers Association.

Misawa Haruka , art director and head of the Misawa Design Institute, received the 2017 JAGDA New Designer Award from the Japan Graphic Designers Association.

Haruka Misawa received this award for submissions including the VI and app for Tokyo Big Sight that symbolically represent the appearance of the convention tower, Ueno Planet which collects the diverse range of animals from Ueno Zoo into a single picture that resembles an unknown planet, and waterscape which was an attempt to search for and create completely new environments for aquatic creatures. In addition to an exhibition at Creation Gallery G8 in Tokyo from May 30 (Tuesday) – June 24 (Saturday), a traveling exhibition is also planned.

•Misawa Haruka
Born in Gunma Prefecture in 1982, Haruka Misawa graduated in 2005 from the Department of Industrial, Interior and Craft Design at Musashino Art University. After working at the nendo design office, he joined the Hara Design Institute at Nippon Design Center in 2009. The Misawa Design Institute began operating in July 2014, and is engaged in a wide range of design fields including graphics, products, and space design. His works include the VI and entrance sign for Kitte Marunouchi, the Paper Flowers and Paper Vehicles of Flight submissions to the Takeo Paper Show 2014 “Subtle” exhibition, and the Ueno Planet ad for Ueno Zoo.

• JAGDA New Designer Award
The New Designer Award was created in 1983 as a way to focus on excellent young designers and reinvigorate the graphic design industry. The award is given each year to several promising graphic designers (JAGDA members who are age 39 or younger on October 31 of that year) who are expected to produce great future accomplishments. The award winners are selected from among the entrants to the annual member collection of works Graphic Design in Japan. The award has recognized a large number of talented individuals who went on to be active in the design industry, and receives much attention from persons involved with design and advertising.
