Optimum -- Design's Original Form

In 2002 the Japan Design Committee held the exhibition "Optimum", a collaborative project in which Naoto Fukasawa participated as commissioner, Kenya Hara was in charge of art direction and editing the catalogue, and Taku Satoh took charge of exhibit design. "Optimum" denotes the essence of "original form". The exhibition showcased products selected by Naoto Fukasawa, which he deemed exquisitely designed to correspond with the human environment in the same way as living things evolve to fit their particular surroundings.
The exhibited products are photographed on a white background to reproduce an inspiring live space that does not arise from framed photographs. This method reveals the naturally coordinated relationship among three entities: catalogue, exhibit walls and products.
