EXPO 2005 AICHI Promotion

In 1997, Japan's Aichi Prefecture was chosen to host the first World Exposition of the 21st century. Japan won the bid against Canada's Calgary and Australia's Gold Coast because of its ecology-friendly proposal, which assured the least development of the Expo's physical site, a small forest in Aichi Prefecture's Seto area, so as not to interrupt the greater part of the ecological system. The theme is "Natures Wisdom". We took charge of designing the tools used to present Japans plan at the General Assembly of the BIE (Bureau of International Expositions) as well as promoting the Exposition on the initial stage immediately after Japan won the right to host it. Our promotional operation included designing the pamphlet containing the posters, calendars and the explanation of basic concepts, using illustrations in the "Honsozusetsu", a series of illustrated books of natural history. This series is part of Aichi Prefectures Iwase Bunko Library's collection, and is based on the idea that the more technology evolves, the more tactfully it will begin to harmonize with nature, from the perspective that the man-made elements do not counteract the natural.
