TOKYO FIBER '07 SENSEWARE

TOKYO FIBER '07 SENSEWARE The TOKYO FIBER Exhibition aimed to foster an entirely new kind of relationship between people, fibers, and the environment. People have used fibers in clothing from time immemorial, but here, as a means of identifying new possibilities for fibers, we chose to focus on paths other than that which fashion leads. There are many different types of fibers, but TOKYO FIBER '97 focuses on artificial fibers. Japanese-produced artificial fibers in particular have evolved to a very advanced level, and are continuing to develop as environmental materials. Japan is a country known for its ability to apply high technology to daily life activities in smart, sophisticated ways. The country is home to fully nine automobile manufacturers, as well as numerous world-class home electronics manufacturers. In addition, many talented Japanese are active in fields such as architecture, design, and the media arts. The idea for TOKYO FIBER came from the realization that intelligent fibers facilitate creativity in these areas, helping to bring about original new fields. The exhibition was held in Tokyo and Paris for a total of just seven days split between the two venues. Though it was a short exhibition, it attracted more attention--and many more visitors--than expected.
